Ok, confession time; I reeaaalllly like watching movies. I am particularly drawn to those movies with dramatic battles. That idea of struggling through the odds that have been stacked against you and finally grabbing hold of the victory you never took your eyes off for a second! It’s impressive stuff. If only we were all as amazing as those warriors, sportsmen and hero’s in the movies.
Now, I am not much of a warrior, hero or sportsman, but I do know a verse that always leaves me feeling like one. In fact this has to be one of my favorite verses. Every time I read it, it really feels like I am a foot soldier at the beginning of a great battle, or a footballer in the change rooms at halftime on grand final night. The coach (or General) is giving you that classic speech, you know the one, the speech that makes the team/platoon realize who they are and what they really want, and then they go out there all ramped up and get that victory!
But all dramatics aside, this isn’t a movie. This is real life. And sometimes, even though Hollywood is not writing out how our day/week/year is playing out, it can still feel like a crazy roller coaster. If you are in the thick of the battle, let me introduce you to coach Paul, because he has a little speech for you, and folks, it’s a good one.
If you have a little time pop on over to 2 Corinthians 4 to get the fuller picture, because if we are talking tough times, that speech was honed in the perfect ground for any tough moments we may be experiencing today. Don’t give up. Keep going. God is on your side.
